Neonatology is a superspeciality of Paediatrics and deals with all the problems of newborn till 28 days of life. However, NICU graduates are followed up till 2-3 years of age.

The Department of Neonatology envisions to become a regional and international center of excellence, in quality neonatal care and an apex institute of neonatal training, research & innovation.

Mission

It envisages giving state-of-art neonatal care, through compassionate and family centered approach, using evidence based interventions and futuristic technology, with the goals of best short and long term outcomes and intact survival. Through national and international collaborations, it aims to provide the best learning experience to the trainees and groom them for analytic, scientific and innovative approach in neonatology.

The Neonatology department headed by Surg. Rear Adm. (Prof.) Girish Gupta NM, VSM (Retd.), an internationally renowned Neonatologist, has 40 bedded NICU, with 22 level-3 care beds. It has state of the art equipments like high frequency ventilators, therapeutic hypothermia, aEEG monitor, point of care ultrasound and echocardiography, video laryngoscope, laminar flow, incubators, osmometry, trancutaneous bilirubinometer, etc.

Expertise exists in procedures like central line insertion, intercostal drainage, peritoneal dialysis, double volume exchange transfusion, invasive blood pressure monitoring, etc . State of the art dedicated Advance Neonatal Transport Ambulance (ANTA) is available. Human milk bank and facilities for intact cord resuscitation are being developed. The department runs neonatology training programmes for health care providers. It is actively involved in research and innovation for improving the future neonatal care.
