Himalayan Institute of Medical Science is a multidisciplinary,tertiary care hospital. Neurology was started in the Hospital in 1995.A full-fledged separate Neurology department came into existence in--. This department is the first integrated department of Neurology in the state of Uttarakhand and provides ministrations to neurological disorders of all types,not only from state of Uttarakhand but also from UP, HP and Haryana. It has 40 beds including 6Neuro-critical careand emergency beds. At present four neurologists man the department. The Neurology Department provides comprehensive ‘in-patient’ and ‘out-patient’ neurological services, treating the full range of neurological disorders. Itoffers state-of-art Emergency & Trauma serviceand treats around1500 in-patients annually. Notably it has awell-established outpatient service, seeing 40000 outpatients per year. The Department has developed sub-specialty expertise in stroke, epilepsy, degenerative disorders, neuromuscular disorders and headache.
The department is committed to providing excellence in neurological care through quality management, education and training of health care professionals. Today it is well known for its academic excellence and inexpensive medical care in this part of the country.
The Department of Neurology has been permitted by Medical Council of India to start DM program with an intake capacity of two candidates per year.

General Neurology Outpatient Clinics
Neurology provides out patient services to all patients with neurological disorders every working day from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. We receive patients not only from Uttarakhand but also from UP, Haryana and HP in our OPD. Currently Neurology OPD has three consultation chambers with all examination facilities. There is an adequate comfortable waiting area for the patients. Dedicated minor procedure room is attached to the OPD. One teaching room is available for teaching students

Neurology services include 30-bedded general neurology ward for the admitted patients. In addition, there is a separate
Main ICU supports a 6-bedded high dependency neurological unit for the critically ill patients. The department enjoys the support of state of art central intensive care unit also. The Neurology ward has a side lab to perform various tests, room for minor procedures, resident doctor's duty room and a teaching room.
Neurology admits around 120 patients every month from our OPD and emergency. We have all necessary facilities to manage variety of neurological disorders including stroke, status epilepticus, G B Syndrome, neuro-infections, myasthenia gravis, acute headache, dementia, movement disorders and chronic neurological conditions.

Neuro-critical care
We have dedicated 6 bedded high dependency neurological unit was started with 2 Senior resident (DM Neurology resident) on duty round the clock under guidance of faculty to provide intensive care to common neurological disorders like strokes, ruptured aneurysms, acute brain and spinal cord disorders, status epilepticus, infections of the brain (encephalitis) and the brain's or spine's meninges (meningitis)and weakness of the muscles required to breathe (such as the diaphragm).

Neurology is a referral Centre for all electrophysiological diagnostic tests. We receive patients not only from UK but also from other states also for electrophysiological diagnosis
Neurology Office & Library
Currently separate offices are available for all departmental faculty and clerk. Seminar room with audio visual facilities is available for teaching. Neuroscience Departmental Library has about 130 neurology and Neurosurgery books including latest textbooks. Library is subscribing to 6 International and three National Neurology Journals.
